Luke Matone Architect is an RIAI-registered architecture, planning and design studio based near Dingle in the south-west of Ireland. Founded in 2024, the practice explores the intersection of place, material and context, creating architecture that is both careful and poetic.
Each project begins with close dialogue with clients and a careful reading of the historic, spatial and environmental qualities of a site. We see architecture as part of a continuing narrative, shaped by what has come before, by the people who inhabit it, and by the landscape and culture to which it belongs. This understanding informs buildings and spaces that are grounded, enduring and meaningful.
Drawing on Ireland’s rich cultural and natural landscape, our work establishes a dialogue between old and new, weaving contemporary design with vernacular forms, local materials and traditional craftsmanship. Familiar forms and materials are often reinterpreted rather than simply reproduced, allowing new architecture to feel connected to place while retaining its own character and identity.
Regardless of scale or budget, every project is approached with rigour and care. We believe the most meaningful architecture emerges through relationships between client and architect, building and landscape, material and maker, and past and present, resulting in spaces that enrich the everyday, endure over time and leave a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to encounter them.

RIAI Architect Accredited in Conservation at Grade 3
Luke is a qualified Architect, Accredited in Conservation at Grade 3, a Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP) and is a member of the Irish Georgian Society.
Luke studied architecture at Kingston University London 2011 (RIBA Part I), London Metropolitan University 2016 (RIBA Part II) and the University of Westminster 2020 (RIBA Part III).
He gained experience in a range of award-winning international practices, training to be an architect with Christ & Gantenbein (2012-2013) and Herzog & de Meuron (2013-2014) in Basel Switzerland, before returning to London to learn from and collaborate with Tuckey Design Studio (2014), Casey Fierro (2016) and Morris+Company (2017-2023). His portfolio spans a diverse mix of sectors, from public and private housing to hospitals, museums, artist studios and art galleries.
Originally from Bristol in the southwest of England, Luke relocated to Corca Dhuibhne, in 2023, and founded his own architectural practice the following year.
Beyond architecture, Luke enjoys cycling, swimming, and sailing along the Corca Dhuibhne coast.

Our services include: Initial Design & Feasibility Early consultation, site appraisal, development of the project brief, feasibility studies, concept design and initial advice on planning, construction and project requirements.
Developed Design & Planning Development of the architectural design, preparation and submission of planning applications, engagement with Planning Authorities, responses to requests for Further Information, and coordination with specialist consultants where required.
Conservation & Architectural Heritage As an RIAI Architect Accredited in Conservation at Grade 3, we provide conservation services for historic and traditional buildings, including conservation advice, Architectural Heritage Impact Assessments, assessments of significance, and the careful repair, alteration, extension and adaptation of existing buildings and Protected Structures. Interior Architecture & Design Our architectural services can extend through to the interior, including spatial planning, kitchens, bathrooms, bespoke joinery, lighting, materials, finishes, fixtures and fittings. We aim to carry the architectural concept through from the overall form and character of the building to the details that are seen, touched and used every day.
Detail Design & Construction Information Development of the project through detailed design, including construction details, specifications, schedules, finishes and fittings, together with coordination of structural engineers, building services consultants, specialist designers, suppliers and fabricators. Tender & Building Contract Preparation of tender information, assistance in the selection of suitable builders, invitation and assessment of tenders, and preparation of the project for entering into an appropriate building contract. Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) We can undertake the role of Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) where appointed, coordinating the management of health and safety considerations arising from the design process in accordance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations. This includes coordination with the client, design team and other relevant parties throughout the design stages of the project.
Construction Stage Services Architectural services during construction, including appropriate site inspections, review of the progress and quality of the works, response to contractor queries, coordination of design information, administration of the building contract where appointed, certification of payments, and inspection through to completion.
Certification & Opinions on Compliance Inspection and certification services where appropriate, including Opinions on Compliance with Planning Permission and Building Regulations, ancillary certification, completion documentation, and bank or mortgage stage certificates and valuations for construction-stage drawdowns.
Existing Buildings & Property Advice Inspections and reports on existing buildings, measured surveys, planning and Building Regulations advice, and architectural advice relating to alterations, extensions, refurbishment, adaptive reuse and change of use.
Consultation & Collaboration One-off architectural consultations and design reviews are welcome, as are collaborations with other architects, designers, consultants, craftspeople and makers where our experience can contribute to a wider project.
We are continuing to build a trusted local network across planning, surveying, engineering, conservation and construction. By identifying what is needed early and bringing the right people into the conversation at the right time, we help projects move forward clearly and efficiently.
